Meet lara
Lara was born into a family that had a hard hand dealt to them, despite their best efforts. When Lara was a young child, Lara’s dad and her younger sister were both sick and required a great deal of medical care. Lara’s mom had trouble coping with their constant need for care and lack of financial resources, and so called on people she barely knew to help take care of her two daughters. Many of these caretakers didn’t provide a safe atmosphere and since Lara and her sister were in perpetual danger, CPS ultimately decided to remove them from their home.
Not long into foster care, Lara’s sister had to go to the hospital because of her medical condition. During her stay, a loving nurse fell in love with her. She was then adopted into a warm, educated, and supportive family. However, there wasn’t room for Lara.
Lara is developmentally delayed and has a hearing impairment, so needs some extra attention. She enjoys reading, taking care of animals and loves movies and playing with toys. Lara takes special pride in her ability to get along well with playmates and enjoys learning and trying new kinds of foods.
Given Lara’s traumatic history, she struggles with feelings of worthlessness, and this sometimes affects her behavior. She is particularly sensitive to light and her developmental delays will need a special family that will be able to adjust to her needs.
The Way Home Adoption has worked to find a family that is best for Lara. During our “Reconnection” stage where TWHA staff investigates previous connections, a caretaker that previously worked with Lara in the past expressed interest in being her forever home. While this is still in the early stages, we are hopeful this could be the happy ending Lara deserves. Stay tuned!
