Meet Alejandro & José

Alejandro and José are funny brothers who are very close given all they have been through together. Like most siblings, they love each other very much, but can also annoy each other depending on the day!

The boys came into the foster system five years ago when they were 7 and 8. Their father’s drug addiction made it hard for him to care for them, once leaving them home unsupervised for hours without food or water. Unfortunately, their mother was deported to Mexico after being released from prison and they have had little contact with her or her family over the years.

José is tall with brown hair and a quick smile. He loves sports and food! He’s very talkative with a happy laugh. He is always ready to play a video game or build with Legos. He loves science and reading.

Alejandro is smaller with dark hair and sparkling eyes. He loves to read and does well at school. He was so proud the day he made the honor roll at his school and hopes for a forever family with siblings with whom to play.

They want to be adopted together by a compassionate forever family, but adoptions kept falling through.

Four non-family member potential adoptions fell through, each for different reasons, causing more hurt to these already traumatized children and prolonging their time in foster care. Finally, Alejandro and José were referred by CPS to The Way Home Adoption to help find their forever families.

It took several months, and a lot of hard work, but finally we tracked down members of their father’s family. Some said they were not interested right away, others said they were, but then eventually backed out. Finally, we called their mother in Mexico who told us about her sister, Fernanda, who lives in Houston. We reached out to Fernanda, and she and her husband were excited about meeting the boys and the prospect of potentially adopting them. Fernanda and her husband had always wondered what happened to their nephews and prayed one day they would find them.

Fernanda is a stay-at-home mom and her husband is a construction worker. They have three children of their own around the same age as Alejandro and José and a large enough house to fit the new additions. After all the necessary checks and balances, the kids excitedly began having Zoom calls with the family to get to know each other. Then, Alejandro and José began to visit their aunt, uncle, and cousins. Everyone was getting along very well.

So well, in fact, we are happy to report that several months ago the children moved in permanently with their aunt and uncle and it will only be a few more months before the adoption is finalized.
